Ice StorageUpdated a year ago
You’ve just made some beautiful ice, now what?!
How to store ice:
Proper ice storage is equally important to water selection when it comes to clear ice. If stored in a plastic bag, the ice will likely freeze together and break when attempting to pull apart for use. Using a container such as the Klaris storage container will maintain quality and ease of use. We recommend using your ice within the first few weeks of making it. If stored properly, though, it will maintain clarity for months or even years.
Frosted cubes:
Though it is natural for the cubes to develop a frosty layer in the freezer, this can be avoided if they are dried off with a towel before placing into the freezer (This is not necessary to maintain clear ice). The frosty appearance of the cube will also disappear when the ice is tempered before use.
Using ice after storage:
After pulling the ice out of the freezer, DON’T FORGET to let your ice temper before placing the cube into the liquid. Tempering helps the ice acclimate to the room/liquid temperature, removes the frosted outer layer, and prevents cracking. More information about tempering can be found here.
